Felt Rapunzel Tiara Tutorial

I made a Rapunzel Tiara for my little one for her 3rd Birthday.

First I downloaded a template of Rapunzel's crown from Disney and Family Fun magaizine

I traced the outer pattern on gray felt and the inner on a sheet of sparkly white felt and cut them out. I cut out two pieces of the large outer piece in gray, so that we could put the band between the two layers.

I pinned the pieces together.

And using white thread I stitched the teardrop shapes together white on gray.

Next I cut a 9 inch piece of 1/2 inch elastic and a piece of gray material that is 18 x 1 3/4 inches.

I pinned right sides together.

I sewed right sides together, leaving both ends open, and turned right side out.

To turn right side out I used a safety pin. I clipped the pin on one end and then pushed it through.

I then clipped the safety pin on the end of the elastic and pulled it through, when you get to the end be careful to not pull the elastic all the way through. I clipped the end of the elastic with the end of the fabric with another pin, while I continued to pull the elastic through. When your elastic reaches the other end, pin that end as well to hold it all in place. Scoot the fabric so that it bunches how you would like.

Then sew the ends of the elastic and fabric together so they are secure and ready to be attached to the ornamental part of the crown.

You will have three layers, the sparkly white and then two grays that are the exact same.

Slide the elastic band about 3/4 of inch between the two gray pieces on the ends and pin in place. Then sew around the edges on the white felt, sewing all 3 pieces together and catching the band. I went over the short sides 3 times to make sure the band was good and secure.

Then hot glue the tear drop shapes onto the crown, large in the middle and two smaller ones on the side.

I then added some gems to the bottom and top. I found these gems at Joanns in the beading section by the hair accessories, they are flat on the back and can be attached with hot glue.

And here is the finished product!

I LOVE IT and think it looks adorable with my daughters Rapunzel dress up outfit.

Room Makeover 3...

We had a boring 3 drawer plastic thing next to her bed that just served as an UGLY CATCH ALL!

I found this great green side table at target for $12! I think it adds a great touch and I KNOW she will love it!

Because she was losing her junk drawer I added a teal bin (2.50) to use as a junk basket.

Total: $14.50

Room Makeover 2

My oldest daughter is gone to Utah to visit family for the summer and to help fill the void of her being gone I am doing some little surprises in her room.

First up some new fun storage things for her desk.

What do you think did she need a new hamper?

Cute new hamper from target, it matches her new organizational stuff on her desk.

She really liked her sisters tied tulle, or maybe she just really disliked her basket?! Anywho, so I added some fun teal tulle to hers too.

And one more cheap new item, an over the door hook from Targets dollar bin.

Bedroom makeover Trena 1

My oldest went away over spring break and while she was gone, we gave her twin bed to her little sister and surprised her with a double and new bedding in her favorite colors!

I got the bedding and sheets at walmart and found this huge awesome pillow at Ross! They only had the pillow in two colors, lime and

teal! Perfect!

Her old bed had a headboard with shelves that she had a bunch of pics on so I took everything of this wall and hung up this great collage frame with all of her pictures and a few new ones. I also painted these star hooks (walmart) for her too.



She loved the surprise! It made her feel good to know I was thinking about her while she was gone.

Kays Birthday Package

So my little sister Kayleigh turns 22 today and I wanted to whip up just a bunch of fun random gifts for her birthday, I ended up not making one thing (a tote), but its all good because I'm pleased with the rest.

So first up is the flat iron travel case, I posted about this project two weeks ago. It was my first one and there are definite flaws, but I like how it turned out and she loves me so she'll like it with all of its flaws.

Next up a rosette headband. I have made these before and love them, but this one is in her signature color. I actually made my rosettes differently than I have in the past this time. Instead of twisting, wrapping and gluing periodically with fabric tac while trying to hold it all together, I knotted the beginning and glued to the center of a piece of felt and twisted and glued down (with a glue gun) on the felt so when your circle was completed it was already on the felt. They are definite pluses and minuses to doing it this way. I liked that you are able to put it down and walk away right in the middle of it, I like that using a glue gun you are less likely to get burned this way, I like that you leave out a step this way. I don't like that you are more likely to see glue in my opinion and I don't like that when you are finished and cutting out the felt around your rosette your circle isn't always that round.

Next another rosette headband, but I added some tulle and a little bling this time and I LOVE the vintage look and can't wait to make more of these!

And last but not least a fabulous rosette necklace also in her signature color! This photo is not great as it was taken by me in the mirror so the rosettes appear bigger and at a strange angel, but I love the necklace.

As I wrapping up her goodies, the song from Sound of Music was running through my head "brown paper packages tied up with string these are a few of my favorite things" So here it is all wrapped and ready to go

Laundry basket makeover

My littlest babies garbage can was in desperate need of a makeover! It had holes all over it and I decided to just throw it out. I looked everywhere to find a laundry basket that I liked that would match her room, never could find one.

I found this empty white laundry basket in our garage and decided to do a quick inexpensive makeover, its amazing what $2 worth of tulle can do.

My two year old thinks its super fun and that's all that matter to me :)

Flat Iron Travel Pouch...

My little sisters birthday is coming up and I wanted to make her something fun, so I came up with a combination of projects for her. Kayleigh's birthday is not actually for another 1 1/2 weeks but I am pretty confident she doesn't look at my family blog, let alone my craft bag :)

So this is the first of the four presents I am making her, a flat iron travel pouch, I love it and can't wait to make one for me too. I found a great tutorial over at Crap I've Made, super easy to make you read the tutorial once and you are good to go.

Like all sewing projects for me, it is so fun to watch the project come together. I am still relatively new at sewing so all projects feel like a great accomplishment and that I am trying something new. At one point you are sewing through 4 pieces of material, 2 layers of bating (I did use insulin-bright and found it at my local walmart), and 2 layers of double fold bias tape, I thought my needle would break for sure, but it didn't! This was also my first time sewing with bias tape, much easier than I anticipated.
